George Michael reportedly
left the majority of his whopping £105million fortune to his favourite sister
Melanie, it has been claimed.
Following the tragic death
of her younger brother on Christmas Day, hairdresser Melanie is now in line to
receive up to £50million, reports The Sun.
The 55-year-old, who
supported the Careless Whisper star as he travelled the world at the height of
his fame, was particularly close to the star.
His other sister Yioda, 57,
will also receive a sizeable chunk of his property portfolio as well as part of
his fortune, the newspaper reports.
“George was very close to
his sisters, and the understanding is that they’re going to inherit most of his
wealth, par¬ticularly Melanie who he was incredibly close to,” an insider
claimed.
“She was there at many of
the big milestones in his life, and was there by his side until the very end.”
The source added that it
meant a lot for George to look after his family even after death.
Melanie allegedly caused the
Careless Whisper video, which was shot by Duncan Gibbins, who was working for
Jon Roseman productions, to double its budget.
Roseman called the shoot a
“f***ing” disaster in the book, I Want My MTV.
Melanie would cut her
brother's hair when she toured with him and during the shooting of the iconic
video, she cut his hair, meaning that earlier scenes were useless.
This allegedly saw the
budget shoot over £17,000.
The family remained close
with both of George's sisters keeping a vigil at his side when he was struck
down with pneumonia in 2011.
The formal dividing up of
George's assets will reportedly begin after any potential inquest in the new
year.
MirrorOnline have reached
out to representatives from the late star's estate.
The iconic star's
post-mortem will be carried out 'in due course', according to the coroner's
office that will be investigating his death.
The 53-year-old pop star,
who died on Christmas Day 2016 at his home in Goring-on-Thames, has been
referred to Oxfordshire Coroner's Office – which said there's currently no
reason to suggest his cause of death was suspicious.
In a statement, the office
said: "The death of Mr George Michael has been reported to the Oxfordshire
Coroner's Office.
"As with all deaths
where the cause of death is not immediately apparent, a post-mortem examination
is to be undertaken in due course in order to confirm the cause of death.
"This information is
required before the coroner can decide whether there is a need for an inquest.
If a natural cause of death is confirmed, there will be no need for an inquest.
"All of this is in
accordance with normal procedures and does not imply that there is currently
any reason to believe the cause of death is in any way suspicious."
George – real name Georgios
Kyriacos Panayiotou – was discovered in bed at home by his partner Fadi Fawaz
ahead of a planned Christmas dinner.
He later tweeted: "ITs
a xmas i will never forget finding your partner dead peacefully in bed first
thing in the morning.. I will never stop missing you xx"
Tributes have been flooding
in from around the world, and a big concert held in George's name is being
planned by his celebrity friends.
Elton John is said to be
preparing a Princess Diana-style tribute to his old mate, with whom he fell out
for a period of many years over disagreements with George's lifestyle.
It's thought that George's
death was due to heart failure, but this won't be confirmed until the coroner
has examined his body in the New Year.
