Leicester
City have been drawn against Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the
Champions League.
Craig
Shakespeare's men are the last remaining Premier League in the competition and
will now face Diego Simeone's side over two legs month.
The
pair first meet at the Vicente Cauldron on April 12 before the return leg at
the King Power on April 18.
The
Foxes secured their place in the quarters with a surprise win over Sevilla.
After losing the first leg in Spain they sacked Claudio Ranieri, less than a
year after he lifted the Premier League title.
Shakespeare
has been handed the reigns at the King Power until the end of the season, with
the Foxes winning all three games he has taken charge of so far.
It
will be memorable for everyone at the football club. We might just be the
surprise team," he said.
Asked
if any of the team had holidays or weddings lined up for the Saturday of the
Champions League final, winger Marc Albrighton replied: “No, not as yet.
"We
will continue to enjoy this and see how far we can go. You don’t enter a
competition and aim not to win.
“We
believed we could win and the next step is the quarter-finals. I don’t think I
saw one pundit say we were capable of going and winning against Sevilla. We
defied the odds, we will do it again.
“I
think with the more wins we get under our belt, the more confidence we take.”
The
first-legs ties for the quarter-finals take place on the week commencing April
10, with the return fixtures taking place the following week.
There
will be two games on the Tuesday night and two on the Wednesday night of each
week.
